The Passion Of A Canuck-lehead

Sports has the ability to bring out the best and worst in all of us. We follow our teams so passionately that it becomes it sometimes takes on a life of its own. Thanks to a reader named Noah Stacey, he's been documenting one Canucks fan's love and agony on video. There were a lot of ideas that popped into my head while watching his video - "History will be made" was one of them - but there's no doubt that Noah's video is probably representative of a lot of hockey fans while we watch the game.

Here is Noah's "epic" video, complete with awesome dramatic music, of subject Greg Diamond. Greg is the live-and-die Canucks fan, and he's sporting a pretty incredible playoff beard in this video. Check it out, and try not to read lips, kids!
Honestly, that was pretty awesome. But seeing Greg as he is in the video made me wonder if I react like that when I watch hockey. I mean, I love the game, but am I that passionate about my team's battle for the Stanley Cup? I tend to think that I'm not, but maybe I was when the Penguins downed the Red Wings in 2009 and I just don't remember it.

So I ask you, readers: do you resemble Mr. Diamond when you're watching the game? Do you have the highs and lows seen in the video? Do you yell at the TV for players to shoot or when someone does something stupid? Does this extend to other sports such as NFL football or NBA basketball? Do you freak out patrons at sports bars when you break out an impromptu scream or chant?

I'm very interested in all answers, so please leave comments! I think that the passion that Mr. Diamond has for the Canucks is awesome, and I want to thank Noah Stacey for sending me his link. Please hit up his YouTube page and "like" his video if it made you smile! And leave me a comment about how far you take your love of your team when watching a game on TV!

Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!

  1. Maybe it's just the music, but Greg looks nuts. Then again, no one has ever taped me watching hockey. I may need to revise that statement if someone ever did...

  2. Based on that video I would say he's quite calm. I cannot say that about myself. I'm constantly scaring the cats by yelling at the TV for good and bad. And I am not a fan of either Boston or Vancouver! During the regular season I do the same thing with whichever game I'm watching. It IS much worse when someone I care about is playing though.

  3. I found him rather tame, actually. Knowing what I know about myself when I watch the Canuckleheads, I have to hand it to Greg for letting someone actually make a video of him - no bloody way you'd ever find a slo-mo of me watching the Canucks - ever. Especially during the playoffs...
