There's one hockey ticket that hasn't seen its demand dwindle with the NHL lockout. The St. John's IceCaps are still playing in front of capacity crowds thanks to the leadership and vision of President and CEO of the IceCaps, Mr. Danny Williams. Mr. Williams not only participates in game-day events, but enjoys sitting in the crowd with the rest of the fans as the IceCaps battle on the ice. Honestly, he's a man of the people, and it's part of the reason why IceCaps hockey is one of the hottest tickets in any hockey circuit right now.
To give you an idea of how much fun Mr. Williams likes to have at games, check out this great video that was part of the CBC program This Hour Has 22 Minutes. It's pretty darn funny, and gives you a glimpse into what kind of guy is running the IceCaps.
How funny is that? The President and CEO of the IceCaps smuggling in beers to the hockey game because beer is $6.00 is absolutely priceless! I'm still chuckling over it!
The full clip from the CBC is linked here, and I have to say that more people like Mr. Williams would undoubtedly be a benefit to the game of hockey. The man loves the game, and is willing to do anything to make it successful! If there was any wonder why the IceCaps have been so successful in connecting with fans in Newfoundland, you need to look no further than Mr. Williams. He enjoys a joke, has a great sense of humour, and doesn't take himself too seriously. That's the winning recipe for success in the entertainment business!
MO' BRO: So far, the Mo' Bro All-Stars have seen Mike Gartner, Wendel Clark, Dirk Graham, Grant Fuhr, and Dennis Maruk added to the team, and we'll toss our first defenceman into the mix today. Like Grant Fuhr's inclusion, this moustachioed man won a number of Stanley Cups while wearing the upper lip fuzz!
Larry Robinson was one of the most feared rearguards in his time, and his facial hair only gave credence to his hard-hitting ways. Robinson could light the lamp as much as he could bring the pain, and his 17 seasons as a Canadien saw the rangy defenceman win two Norris Trophies and a Conn Smythe Trophy while being a part of six Montreal championship seasons. While he spent his last three seasons with the Kings in Los Angeles sans-moustache, his legacy as a Canadien will always be remembered through his great play and his phenomenal upper lip decoration.
Six Stanley Cups, two Norris Trophies, a ten-time NHL All-Star, and a Conn Smythe Trophy - Larry Robinson has one decorated moustache! If you want to get in on the action, head over to the Movember page and get registered so your 'stache can stand amongst these great 'staches!
Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
