Antti Niemi has been a big part of the Dallas Stars' impressive start this season. He's 7-3-0, has a 2.63 GAA, and a .911 save percentage. Niemi has also pushed Kari Lehtonen to a new level of goaltending that hasn't been seen from Lehtonen since the Atlanta Thrashers won the Southeast Division many moons ago, so Niemi has been an important addition to the Stars' roster as Dallas is off to a 15-4-0 record to start the season.
The one thing that Niemi probably didn't expect in Dallas? A name change.
Niemi came out for the warm-up wearing "Nieme" as seen above, and it was documented on social media pretty quickly by a number of people at the game. Clearly, the Dallas Stars pay attention to social media because Niemi had his name correctly spelled on his uniform when he took the ice for the first period.
That's a bit of an oops, I'd say, but at least it was corrected. Maybe we'll see a "Ben" jersey or a "Seggin" jersey in the future as the Stars appear to be taking a phonetic approach to their players' names!
Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
