UBC at REGINA - GAME ONE: Both teams were looking to climb higher in the standings in terms of chasing down Lethbridge and Saskatchewan. Rebecca Unrau potted a rebound and her seventh goal of the season past Toni Ross to put UBC up 1-0 at 8:52 of the first period. Regina would even the score just 17 seconds into the second period when Kylie Gavelin scored her third of the season shorthanded off a two-on-one. They would take the lead at 5:07 when Brooklyn Moskowy's one-timer was ripped past Samantha Langford for the 2-1 Cougars advantage. However, Logan Boyd would tie the game up at 7:35 in the third period when she unleashed a slapshot that Ross couldn't handle, and the game would see the 2-2 would hold true until the final horn. The first overtime period would solve nothing between the two teams, so it was off to a second overtime period. 56 seconds into the fifth period, we'd find ourselves a winner. A brutal turnover in front of Langford would find the twine when Kylie Gavelin ripped home her second of the game and fourth of the season for the 3-2 double-overtime win! Toni Ross picks up the victory while Langford would take the loss in this game.
UBC at REGINA - GAME TWO: UBC was looking for a bounce-back after dropping the double-overtime game while Regina was looking to take five of six points. It looked good for the Cougars early on when Brooklyn Moskowy's shot through the Kylie Gavelin screen beat Danielle Dube for the 1-0 Cougars lead at 8:07. The score would carry through to 4:43 of the second period when UBC's Mikayla Ogrodniczuk ripped a slapshot past a screen Toni Ross for the 1-1 equalizer. 22 minutes later, Jenna Carpenter-Boesch took a pass on the wing, made a gorgeous move around the defender, and beat Ross on the backhand at 6:43 of the third for the 2-1 UBC lead. Kathleen Cahoon would add an empty-netter as UBC wins 3-1. Danielle Dube picks up the win while Toni Ross took the loss.
SASKATCHEWAN at ALBERTA - GAME ONE: Saskatchewan was looking for points as they challenge for first-place in Canada West while Alberta was looking to jump into the top-half of the standings. The Huskies would get on the board first when Julia Flinton's rising wrist shot found its way over Lindsey Post's shoulder at the 4:22 mark for the 1-0 lead. Cayle Dillon would tie the game for Alberta at 3:25 of the second period off a good pass play that Cassidy Hendricks just couldn't stop, but Kaitlin Willoughby would restore the Huskies' one-goal lead with 26 seconds to play in the middle frame when she ripped a shot high past Post.
At 12:11 of the third period, we'd see the game knotted up at 2-2 when Ashley Morin's shot found its way through a maze of traffic and past Hendricks. The final horn in regulation would sound, and we'd be off to overtime at 2-2. And then off to double-overtime at 2-2. And then off to the shootout where we'd find a winner. Hendricks would stop all three shooters she faced and Julia Flinton would score high on Post on Saskatchewan's first shot to give the Huskies the 3-2 shootout win. Hendricks would pick up the victory while Post would take the loss.
SASKATCHEWAN at ALBERTA - GAME TWO: Alberta was looking for the split to salvage the weekend while Saskatchewan was looking to improve upon their lead in the conference. It appeared the momentum would carry over into this game as Leah Bohlken tipped a point shot past Dayna Owen for the opening goal at 7:39. However, it was all Alberta from that point on. Sasha Lutz at 16:59, Alex Poznikoff at 18:38, and Amy Helfrich at 19:21 put the Pandas up 3-1 as Cassidy Hendricks was blitzed by the Pandas offence in the final 3:01 of the period.
The third period would see Poznikoff pick up her second goal at 4:24 and Erinn Baddock would add another at 9:25 as Owen handled everything that Saskatchewan threw at her after the Bohlken goal as Alberta wins 5-1. Owen picks up the win while Hendricks takes the loss.
CALGARY at MANITOBA - GAME ONE: Both teams needed points desperately as the Bisons and Dinos met in Winnipeg. It would be the Bisons who would capitalize first as Tasmine Hemmingway tipped a Celine Caron shot past Carissa Fischer for the 1-0 lead just 5:17 into the game. Megan Grenon would get Calgary on the board at 6:49 when her point shot beat a heavily-screened Rachel Dyck for the 1-1 equalizer. Manitoba would regain the lead just 1:15 later when Fischer mishandled a puck and put it on the tape of Hemmingway who made no mistake in depositing the puck in the open net for the 2-1 lead. Calgary head coach Danielle Goyette would replace Fischer with Sarah Murray following that goal.
Calgary would square this game up in the second period as Iya Gavrilova made a beautiful move around Erica Rieder and went forehand-backhand to deke Rachel Dyck while shorthanded to make it 2-2. We would see one last goal with 2:58 remaining in the game. With a delayed penalty being called on Calgary, a scramble play saw Alana Serhan put the puck on net and the rebound would find Nicole McGlenen off to the right side of the crease where she fired home the game-winner. Manitoba would take the win by a 3-2 score with Rachel Dyck picking up the victory while Sarah Murray would be assessed the loss.
CALGARY at MANITOBA - GAME TWO: Manitoba came out in a new look as they wore pink and black in support of breast cancer initiatives in the province! As you can see by the picture, one of the Bisons modeled the jersey while showing off a number of pucks. For a Halloween game, it was a scary afternoon for the Dinos whenever Venla Hovi was on the ice for Manitoba. This game had very little scoring outside of Hovi's amazing afternoon, so let's work through this quickly.
Hovi, the Finnish Olympian, scored shorthanded at 1:56 before adding her second of the game on a two-on-one where she ripped home a slapshot at 7:49. Courtlyn Oswald would tap home an Alanna Sharman feed through Sarah Murray's five-hole at 6:47 of the second period before Hovi added a her third of the game on a deflection while on the power-play at 9:54 for the first Manitoba hat trick of the season. Hovi would score her fourth of the game when she redirected a Lauryn Keen cross-ice pass past Murray for the 5-0 lead which Manitoba would carry through to the final horn. Amanda Schubert would stop all 14 shots she saw for the shutout and win while Murray took the loss.
MOUNT ROYAL at LETHBRIDGE - GAME ONE: Lehtbridge was looking to maintain their hold on first-place in Canada West while Mount Royal needed wins if they hoped to make up ground in November. Surprisingly, only one team showed up for this game. Elisha Cunningham opened the scoring for Mount Royal on the power-play at 13:10. The second period was exactly like the first period as Elisha Cunningham scored a second power-play goal 35 seconds into the middle frame. Channia Alexander would add another Cougars goal at 4:25 of the third period, and Talia Terry would finish off the scoring at 13:24 as Mount Royal out-everything-ed the Lethbridge Pronghorns on this night in the 4-0 victory.
Jess Ross stopped all 22 shots she faced for the shutout and win while Alicia Anderson took the loss as Lethbridge falls out of first-place in Canada West for the first time this season!
MOUNT ROYAL at LETHBRIDGE - GAME TWO: Lethbridge was shutout on home ice by the seventh-place team. There was a sense they'd right that wrong in a big way on Halloween. Everyone but the Cougars got that message. Hali Reardon scored at 16:51 of the first period, Maggie Shykula-Ross scored at 11:30 of the second period, and Jordan Finnie hit the empty net with 42 seconds to play as the Cougars blanked the Pronghorns for the second-straight game in Lethbridge!
Emma Pincott stopped all 20 shots thrown her way for the shutout and the victory while Jessica Lohues took the loss as Lethbridge loses two in a row for the first time all season and will find themselves in second-place for the next two weeks as Canada West women's hockey is on a bye week.

★★★ Three Stars ★★★
1. Venla Hovi (MAN) - Pretty sure a four-goal game will get her nominations on any weekend. Hovi, who has played just four games after suffering an injury, now has four goals on nine shots. If she's found her legs, she could be dangerous for the Bisons.2. Alex Poznikoff (ALB) - The rookie forward is tied for the Canada West lead in goals with seven, and she had three of those this weekend against the top team in the Saskatchewan Huskies. She's making a case for her name to be called as Canada West Rookie of the Year at this point.
3. Kylie Gavelin (REG) - Gavelin was in on every goal that Regina scored as she had a pair of goals and a pair of assists after returning from injury. Gavelin is a star for the Cougars, and they need her talents every week.

QUEEN'S at GUELPH: Guelph would continue to roll on Sunday. Averi Nooran opened the scoring on the power-play with 14 seconds left in the first period to put the Gryphons up 1-0. However, Guelph would tack on two more in the final frame through Marcie Landman at 5:55 and Averi Nooran into the empty net at 18:52 for the 4-1 Guelph victory. Valerie Lamenta picked up the victory while Caitlyn Lahonen was on the losing end in this one.
