The Only Move That Mattered

Once again, another NHL Trade Deadline day came and went with a flurry of activity happening after lunch, thereby rendering the first four hours of coverage on Canada's two major sports networks as useless television. The one major piece of news that broke this morning, however, was the announcement that Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole would be returning to TSN once more after their contracts with Fox Sports One in the US were not renewed!

Jay and Dan found their way on TSN as the two guys on SportsCentre who had way too much fun reading the news and covering highlights of the day's action, but they became household icons due to the humour and fun they brought to the show. But perhaps the one thing that Canadian television was sorely missing for the time they were influencing children in the US was our Sergei Bobrovsky updates. You know, maybe we're just missing the professionalism they brought to the show on a nightly basis.
With Jay and Dan returning to TSN, I can honestly say that all is starting to become right in the world again. They're starting their new show on TSN in September where they'll cover highlights and resume their shtick where they take as many liberties as they can. Honestly, this was the best move today, and it might be the best trade deadline deal made in the last few years. Well done, TSN. This is big.

I watched zero minutes of the deadline shows today. I hope it was entertaining because the majority of deals that happened were of the minor-league variety. If I were planning to have one of these shows on next year, I might go to air at noon and save everyone the hassle of getting up early.

Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
