The Hockey Show, Canada's only campus-produced radio show that strictly talks hockey, is back tonight to talk U SPORTS National Hockey Championships and... not much else? With word coming across social media that virtually all sports leagues are shutting down in some way, the hockey world hasn't been immune to the threat of Coronavirus as it seems imminent that the NHL and other leagues will make a move to close down temporarily. While there are other stories to chat about from this past week, we might have to feature a few phone interviews over the next few weeks until the quarantines imposed have passed!
Jason Pchajek and I will be having a full discussion about the first day of hockey action at the U SPORTS National Hockey Championships taking place in Charlottetown and Halifax as the best university teams from across Canada compete to stand above all others. With both Mount Royal on the women's side and Saskatchewan on the men's side playing in the early games today, we'll break down what happened in those games and will be providing updates through to the final horn in the later games today. We're hoping to get some reaction from Charlottetown as well, but we're in a holding pattern right now as the teams' media requests are being held until after the game. We'll keep you posted! Among other stories Jason and I will discuss will be the U SPORTS award-winners, the allegation made by a former minor-pro hockey player against his team, and the cancellation of all pro sports thanks somewhat to the stupidity and immaturity of Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert.
If you want to catch the U SPORTS National Women's Hockey Championship, you can see it here via cbcsports.ca by clicking the link! The men's tournament link can be found here, and CBC will be covering all games through to the gold medal games on the CBC sports website and app, and on the CBC Gem app on your mobile devices!
Where's the best place can you hear the show if you're outside Winnipeg or not near a radio, you ask? The new UMFM website's online streaming player is pretty awesome if you want to listen online. If you're using an Apple device, the player doesn't seem to like Safari yet, but we highly recommend you use the TuneIn app found on the App Store or perhaps another browser. If you do use the TuneIn app, you won't be disappointed. It's a solid app.
If you have questions, you can email all show queries and comments to hockeyshow@umfm.com! Tweet me anytime with questions you may have by hitting me up at @TeebzHBIC on Twitter! I'm here to listen to you, so make your voice heard!
Tonight, Teebz and Jason discuss results, winners, losers (specifically Gobert), allegations, cancellations, and much more exclusively on 101.5 UMFM and on the UMFM.com web stream!
