With the announcement that restrictions for pandemic safety in several Canadian provinces will be rolled back by the end of March, the likelihood of concert dates in those places improved dramatically. Musicians certainly have been forced to adapt in this COVID-19 world with more virtual concerts and song and album releases happening digitally than ever before. When restrictions are rolled back, though, the opportunity to tour and play music in front of a crowd of people returns, so watch for your favorite band to announce upcoming concert dates!
What hasn't stopped, though, are the invitations to big events where musicians don sports jerseys and do their thing. As shown above, former New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist has been learning a new skill as he's become quite the guitarist since his unfortunate retirement, and he's appeared on social media and on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon wearing his Rangers jersey while playing the guitar. He's technically not a musician, so he doesn't make the list, but it's still cool to see.
In talking about Lundqvist and musicians, it's time for another look at musicians and their hockey jerseys today, so let's get this party started! Of course, if you want to see all the musicians that have been captured in an image or on film over the years, click here!
We'll start with a polarizing band because it seems that people either love or hate Nickelback for whatever reason, but they have done a lot of concert tour dates across North America. As a result, they have a few jerseys hanging in their closets, but I don't know if anyone of those jerseys they have came with a meet-and-greet with Wayne Gretzky! Nickelback got their jerseys during a tour stop in Phoenix where they met The Great One!
Keke Palmer is likely more known for her acting work, but she signed with Atlantic Records back in 2005 as a musician! Her album, So Uncool, came out in 2007 and made it onto the R&B top-100 charts, and she has since released a handful of other songs. She sang the US National Anthem at the 2021 World Series as well, so I'd say her music career is well-established. Considering that she was photographed alongside Wild Wing at an Anaheim Ducks game in the orange jersey, she's now on the list!
Celine Dion performs in Vegas. Celine Dion has embraced Vegas. Celine Dion is a Vegas Golden Knights fan. C'est tout!
Destiny's Child needs no introduction, but they have performed all over the planet. One of those stops came in Albany, New York where the musicians were gifted AHL Albany River Rats jerseys! I don't think they ever wore them, but they own them!
October 14, 2021 was the opening night this season for the Ottawa Senators, and they decided to throw a party for the fans. Every good party needs a band, so the Senators invited Canadian band The Trews to rock the party at Canadian Tire Centre! It seemed The Trews brought the good vibes to town that night as the Senators defeated the Maple Leafs in that opening-night game by a 3-2 score!
I have never heard of Quinn XCII - pronounced "Quinn ninety-two" - before this image appeared before me, but the Detroit-born musician apparently got his name and number on the back of a Blackhawks jersey while in Chicago! That's some clever customizing!
Shad Gregory Moss has apparently grown up as he's now just "Bow Wow", dropping the "Li'l" from his former name of Li'l Bow Wow. Whatever he's going by, it's still clear that Bow Wow has the ability to wow crowds when they come to see him perform. The Tampa Bay Lightning's Amalie Arena played host to Bow Wow in 2021, and he took home his own customized jersey from the event!
I'm not really into metalcore music by any means, but Beau Bokan is. He's the lead singer and keyboardist for Blessthefall. Again, I don't know much about them, but they were founded in Phoenix, Arizona, but Bokan was born in Huntington Beach, California while living in Los Angeles. It makes more sense knowing that when you see him in his LA Kings gear at the Staples Center! That's his daughter, Rocket Wild Bokan, wearing the Stadium Series jersey!
Drake has himself a closet full of jerseys from across the sports world, but he added another when he jumped on the Danbury Trashers bandwagon following the release of the Netflix movie about the team entitled Untold: Crimes and Penalties. The Trashers, for those asking, were a real team that played in the United Hockey League from 2004-06, and the story surrounding the team's existence is quite surreal!
Ciara is a fairly well-known singer and songwriter, and her marriage to Russell Wilson of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks has made her a mainstay in the Seattle area. As you may know, Seattle got an NHL team this season, and both Ciara and Russell Wilson appear to be Seattle Kraken fans! Ciara is also the first musician to appear on the master list in a Seattle jersey!
Individually, those were some of the artists to appear for their favorite teams, but there are teams who get piles of musicians wearing their jerseys. Among those include the Nashville Predators who, based on their city's music background, shouldn't surprise anyone, but Nashville saw The Brothers Osborne don its colours. Gospel singer Cece Winans wear the Predators' jersey. Country singer Jason Aldean was in a new, customized jersey, and in a hoodie. Karen Fairchild and Phillip Sweet of Little Big Town who had their jerseys on. Paramore attended a game with their uniquely customized jerseys. Big & Rich - Big Kenny and John Rich - sang the anthem in jerseys. And Scott Stapp of Creed fame sang at a Predators game in a Ryan Johansen jersey as his family joined him for some Predators hockey action!
Another team that had a pile of musicians wear its jerseys was the New York Islanders. Those artists included Ed Sheeran who received a jersey at radio station 106.1 BLI, deathcore guitarist Tim Howley of Fit for an Autopsy in orange, rapper MF DOOM wearing his Islanders jersey, Seven Mary Three in a 2008 concert in Uniondale, and Columbia singer Maluma who received his own personalized jersey!
One more team who has two musicians who have worn its jerseys is the Calgary Flames. He likely has a jersey from every team in his closet, but we can add another Snoop Dogg jersey to the Flames' list of musicians The other musician who joins the ranks of musicians sporting Flames jerseys is Brettyn Rose, a country-pop artist from Calgary, Alberta, who wore not only a regular Flames jersey for an appearance, but an alternate jersey as well!
Being that she's a Calgary native, Brettyn Rose has also been invited to sing at the annual Crowchild Classic game at the Saddledome between U SPORTS and Canada West team from the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University. The Dinos and Cougars, respectively, have made this into a big-time event for the schools and the city, but I don't know if a spliced jersey from each school counts as "supporting the team"? Is this a jersey foul or does it get to go on the master list, folks? Comment on this below as your votes will determine its inclusion!
That'll do it for the concert series here on HBIC today as there are a pile of new musicians in jerseys that have been added to the master list. If you have an image you want to send that isn't on the list, fire me an email here, and I'll credit you for the image addition!
Don't forget to comment on Brettyn Rose's sewn-together "Mou-os-Roy" jersey. I'm interested in whether you believe it's a good addition or a jersey foul!
Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
