The Hockey Show - Episode 165

The Hockey Show, Canada's only campus-produced hockey radio show, is going off the script tonight to interview a vivacious, funny, and accomplished athlete. She has ties to hockey, but doesn't play hockey herself. You might be asking how this fits into The Hockey Show, but her chosen sport involves blazing speeds, blades, helmets, and ice - sound like hockey, right? She's a Manitoban by birth, but she's traveled the world in following her dream, and we at The Hockey Show are proud and honoured that she would speak with us about her goal!

Ladies and gentlemen, The Hockey Show is proud, honoured, and privileged to be able to speak with aspiring Canadian Olympic skeleton racer Cassie Hawrysh! Cassie's sport is a little obscure, but it got a lot of recognition thanks to Jon Montgomery - another good Manitoba kid - after he won an Olympic gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. Cassie is chasing down that same dream, and I'll chat with her tonight about growing up in Brandon, moving to Windsor, Ontario for volleyball, finding her way to Regina for track-and-field, and how she eventually landed on the skeleton sled for Canada. We'll talk about skeleton, we'll find out how she's tied to hockey, and we'll do a little Q&A so we get to know Cassie a little better so you'll be able to recognize her when she stands on the podium in 2018 in South Korea!

She's funny, chatty, smart, and personable, and I cannot say thank you enough to Cassie for taking the time out of her busy schedule to talk with me. I hope this interview was as much fun for her as it was for me, and I'm hoping that once her schedule settles a little and she can get home for Christmas, we can have her in-studio with us for another chat.

The phones will be closed tonight, so make sure you tune your radio dial in the Winnipeg region to 101.5 on your FM dial or listen live between 5:30pm and 6:30pm CT on your web-enabled device at the UMFM webpage as well! Tweet me anytime with questions you may by hitting me up at @TeebzHBIC on Twitter. You can also post some stuff to Facebook if you use the "Like" feature, and I always have crazy stuff posted there that doesn't make it to the blog or show. You get a crash-course on skeleton with the incredible Cassie Hawrysh tonight on The Hockey Show only on 101.5 UMFM!
