Well, hello out there! They're on the air again - it's hockey night tonight! The anticipation grows, the whistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice. The players bump, the goalie jumps, and fans all go insane. Someone roars, "He shoots... he scores!" at the good ol' hockey game! While those aren't the exact lyrics that Stompin' Tom Connors wrote for his iconic song The Hockey Song, I have adapted them for tonight's action as the NHL is back, the season begins, and the quest for the Stanley Cup happens once more!
Let's be honest: it feels like it just ended. The St. Louis Blues, capturing their first Stanley Cup in history, seem to have had little time to celebrate their Herculean efforts in capturing the Silver Chalice, but it's already October and hockey season is upon us once again. Without further adieu, let's get this underway!
Here is the opening montage to Hockey Night in Canada on Sportsnet as we spend two minutes getting reacquainted with everything that happened over the last few months that has led us to this moment in time.
Eight teams open their seasons tonight as the Ottawa Senators visit the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Vancouver Canucks travel to Edmonton to play the Oilers, the San Jose Sharks return to Las Vegas to rekindle their battle with the Golden Knights, and the 2019 Stanley Cup Champions in the St. Louis Blues welcome the 2018 Stanley Cup Champions in the Washington Capitals to the midwest city.
Hockey's back, baby, and it starts tonight!
Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
