Lost Among The Waivers

Teams were working feverishly to reduce the number of players on their rosters to meet the NHL-mandated 23-player roster limit for opening night. There were a couple of waiver wire transactions today, but the biggest news for me came out of Boston where they didn't make a waiver claim nor did they lose anyone to a claim. Instead, Cam Neely, President of the Boston Bruins, dropped a tidbit of news that should make everyone in the hockey world happy while keeping his cards close to his chest on the bigger news.

The Pooh Bear alternate jersey is likely the most memorable of the alternate jerseys that the Bruins have worn, and it's memorable for all the wrong reasons. There have been other jerseys worn as alternates and Winter Classic jerseys that have been worked into the rotation, but Cam Neely dropped this news today.
With teams like the Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Islanders wearing designs from the 1990s, you'd kind of expect that the Bruins may follow suit. However, as Neely stated, that's not going to happen and we won't see a reincarnation of the Pooh Bear jerseys anytime soon, it seems, as long as Neely is in charge.

What design might we see? It's hard to say considering the number of designs that the Bruins have used for the Winter Classic games they've played in, but I'd love to see a gold jersey similar to what the Providence Bruins wore a few years ago. The Bruins would be able to use them both at home and on the road being that they're yellow, and they have those gorgeous stripes on the sleeves that would make them very unique among NHL uniforms. I like the idea of the Bruins going to yellow for their alternate as they already have a black uniform, so let's hope that Neely and the Bruins opt for something that has a very classic hockey sweater look while being unique in their colour scheme.

We'll have to wait until November, but the Bruins will bring out a new look this season!

Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
