A Quick Post

I had an extremely busy day today, so this isn't going to be a long-winded post about Jonathan Quick or anyone else named Quick. Instead, it's just a quick observation made as I was reading news on different hockey sites today. The above game preview was posted on the ECHL website for the game tonight between Iowa and Cincinnati.

You may need to read that again because Jaxon Nelson apparently leads the ECHL with seven wins despite his team, the Iowa Heartlanders, only having a record of 3-5-1. It's hard to lead the league in wins with seven when your team only has three wins to its name, but that's not the biggest flub on that note.

Nelson, you see, is a 25 year-old forward who plays for Iowa, and he leads the ECHL in goals. The former University of Minnesota forward spent the 2024-25 season with the AHL's Providence Bruins where he scored two goals and nine points in 35 games after scoring his first professional goal with the Bruins at the end of the 2023-24 season after making the jump from the NCAA. Needless to say, he's more accustomed to beating goalies with shots rather than stopping them.

Iowa and Cincinnati squared off at 4:05pm ET today, so Nelson had opportunities to increase that lead in the goal-scoring department. He would do exactly that in the game as he scored the opening goal on the power-play just 1:43 into the contest and added a second goal at 13:08 in the second period as the Heartlanders hammered the Cyclones by an 8-2 score for their fourth win of the season, potentially avenging an ugly 9-2 loss to Cincinnati on Friday night.

Being that it's 10:30pm CT and I am exhausted, that's all I'm adding for today. Jaxon Nelson remains as the ECHL's goal-scoring leader with nine goals to his name, but he has yet to record a win professionally in between the pipes. This just proves that even the professional hockey people make mistakes sometimes, so don't feel so bad if you do. After all, we're all human. Mistakes happen!

Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
