The Hockey Show - Episode 185

The Hockey Show, Canada's only campus-produced hockey radio show, is clearing the slate tonight. There will be hockey chatter, but the entire hour is devoted to finding sixteen competitors for Canada's favorite hockey radio contest in Survivor: NHL Playoffs! If there was ever a time you wanted to listen to The Hockey Show, tonight would be it since we're kicking off the contest so we're ready for next week's NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

Before we get into how the whole thing goes down, there are some ground rules to follow. These will be strictly adhered to, so if you don't want to or can't follow them, please allow for someone else who can and will follow the rules to participate. These are simple rules, though, so don't think there's a ton of fine print written in here.
  1. One entry per household. Home mailing addresses will be used!
  2. Anyone can enter from anywhere in the world.
  3. You must be willing to do a Survivor-style exit interview. Examples are posted below if you're unsure what that means. I'll expand more on this below.
  4. Once you've selected a random number in the game and the team has been revealed, there is no trading, changing, or swapping teams of any kind. It's a contest so there has to be an element of chance involved.
  5. You must have an email address that you check regularly to participate. Failure to respond to emails will result in the forfeiture of any prizes.
  6. Because this contest is based solely on the results of the NHL Playoffs, The Hockey Show cannot alter or change the results in any way thereby preventing any sort of "game fixing" on our part. As for what the NHL does, that's entirely a different story!
I kid about the there being a fix on in the NHL Playoffs, but all we're doing is matching up people to random teams for a little fun. If your team falls, the interview you will do after being eliminated will happen on the Thursday following your team's elimination. You'll be emailed to confirm a time and we'll get you on the air to chat about your team's downfall, how they undermined you, how certain players failed to show up, and so on. In saying this, here's an example from CBS's Survivor to get you in the spirit!
Ok, so there are no immunity idols in the NHL Playoffs, but there are upsets that blindside fans and contest entrants alike. Those are the moments we want to capture in the exit interviews as the NHL Playoffs progress, and we'll have some fun with those. Again, you must be willing to do the interview if you enter, so make sure that you get best Survivor-style anger going when your team is eliminated. There can be only one winner!

So how do you enter? The phones will open tonight at 5:30pm CT for calls as we begin registering callers for the contest! Please be patient when you call as we only have on person answering the phone, and there's some paperwork to fill out before you get to pick a number. If you get a busy signal, call back. We have a couple of lines we're using and if people are already on them, it will be busy. The first SIXTEEN (16) people to call and register are officially on Playoff Island as Survivor: NHL Playoffs begins next week!

"But Teebz," you say, "there are still playoff spots to be determined!" Yes, you're right as not every spot is determined, so you'll be picking based on the seedings. For example, there will be "1st-place Central", "2nd-place Central", and "3rd-place Central" as well as the same three slots for the other three divisions. There will also be "West Wild Card #1" and "West Wild Card #2" and the corresponding seedings for the Eastern Conference. You'll pick that seeding, and when the dust has settled on the NHL regular season you'll know which team is yours. Some spots - 1st-place Metro, for example - are already decided, but many spots are not. We'll discuss those tonight with the various callers and get their take on who they'd like as their teams!

Why are you doing this? FREE PRIZES! We're giving something to everyone who registers, and we have a pretty spectacular grand prize as well! Free entry, free prizes, and all it takes is a phone call and some patience!

So how do you register? Give us a call at (204) 269-UMFM (8636)! Of course, your radio dial should always be tuned in the Winnipeg region to 101.5 on the FM frequencies.
