The Hockey Show - Episode Seventy-Eight
I was doing some digging regarding our little radio program aptly entitled The Hockey Show. It seems that we're the only hockey program on campus radio in western Canada, and we might be the only campus-based hockey radio show across Canada! Honestly, being the only hockey program on campus radio in western Canada is pretty impressive, but being the only one across the continent? That's one heckuvan honour! I still need to do a little research to confirm this fact, but The Hockey Show, western Canada's only campus-based hockey radio show, will dive headfirst into the NHL Trade Deadline as Beans, Columbus, and myself will break down the entire week's worth of trades as to what we liked, what we didn't like, and which teams scored hits and misses for their activity at the deadline!
I wanted to post this for my good friend, Kevin, who runs one of the best ball hockey tournaments that the city of Winnipeg has to offer. The 2014 ReMax Cup will be played from Friday, May 23 through to Sunday, May 25 at Glenwood Community Center at 27 Overton Street, and will feature at least eight of the best ball hockey teams in Manitoba who will compete for the ReMax Cup! Kevin is now accepting entries for interested teams, and let me tell you that the competition is intense at this tournament! If you're interested, I wrote a piece on last year's tournament, and it was a beauty of an event! If you're a ball hockey player or team and you're interested in playing in this tournament, I highly recommend that you get your team entered ASAP!
Registration is $460 per team, and Kevin can be reached at 204-261-0070 by phone or via email at kevin@churchoftherock.ca. There's a Facebook page as well, so hit that up to see some of last year's photos. Kevin can also be reached through the Facebook page. There are incredible prizes that are handed out all weekend to both players and fans, and the admission cost to see the event for fans, friends, and family is a whopping NOTHING! That's right: free entry! I'll be there again on the weekend, and I'm quite certain I'll have another article about the event. I'd love to chat with you there, so make plans to attend the 2014 ReMax Cup from May 23 to 25 in Winnipeg!
Secondly, if you're in Winnipeg this weekend and have a few hours free on Sunday, the Canadian Red Cross is inviting everyone down to MTS Centre on Sunday, March 9 from 1-3pm for Family Fun Day presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries! Admission to this event is 100% FREE, and there will be a pile of things happening at the MTS Centre for everyone to enjoy! From small to tall, the list of things planned for Sunday makes this Family Fun Day sound like a cool event for the entire family!
There will be a hockey game between the Winnipeg Police Service and the Winnipeg Fire Department with a Timbits hockey game during the intermission. Obby Khan, former Winnipeg Blue Bomber, will drop the puck and sign autographs for fans alongside Jared Funk, a 3-time Canadian Paralympian in Wheelchair Rugby! The event will also kick off the Red Cross annual campaign to educate the public about ice safety, something about which everyone in Manitoba should be more knowledgeable. CJOB's Kelly Moore, former voice of the Manitoba Moose, will host the day's event, and there will be safety information booths, a 50/50 raffle, prizes, and face painting in which fans can participate. C'mon down to the MTS Centre this Sunday for all the fun at Family Fun Day presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries!
Tomorrow's edition of The Hockey Show, western Canada's only campus-based hockey radio show, will be busy. You're invited to participate as well! We want your thoughts on the NHL Trade Deadline, so give us a call at (204) 269-8636 (269-UMFM), tweet us @TeebzHBIC, or hit me up on Facebook! Let us know how your did or didn't on the last day for trades in the NHL this season!
