Using It Wisely
It's an official holiday in HBIC's neighbourhood, so I'm officially taking the day off. I have a pile of stuff I need and/or want to get done that can be done on a day like today where temperatures have plunged to -40C and I'm staying home. Yes, there are hockey games on at the 4 Nations Face-Off, but I my apathy towards the event will continue, especially after learning that the average ticket price for the championship game on February 20 had more than doubled in ten days. I don't know who has that kind of money with everything going on in the world, but it seems like people are spending like it doesn't matter for this tournament. I'm not here to give financial advice, though, so let's move on from those facts.
I'm using the day to get caught up on a few chores, to do some cooking, and to review my own financial picture when it comes to retirement savings being that we're in that season in Canada. Tax planning is something that I'd like to know more about when it comes to NHL players because we always seem to hear about how we, as fans, don't have a hot clue about how players spend their money or how they manage their money. This would be something I'd find interesting, so I may do a little research on this.
I'm not going to lie to anyone: I also slept in today. Not a traditional sleep-in where one stays in bed long past one's normal alarm setting, but I was up to feed Meg the cat as she has a routine, but I returned to bed about an hour later for a couple more hours of sleep. I always seem to be on the needing-sleep side of the coin and I find I rarely have that time where I can truly just use a few hours to catch up, so getting those hours in this morning was necessary and refreshing.
I still need to finish updating my Goodreads information as well as I am posting the reviews I did here on HBIC over on that site as well. Having a few people discover my site due to my reviews of hockey-themed books is a nice little addition, but I really enjoy seeing what other hockey fans are reading. After all, how do you find good hockey books if you're not seeing what others are reading and not listening to what others are saying about those books?
Because I'm wasting sunlight sitting here pounding on the keyboard, I'm going to spring into action and get some stuff done. I'll be back with a true hockey entry again tomorrow as things get back to normal on HBIC, so here's hoping your Monday - holiday or not - goes well!
Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
