HBIC Hits The FM Dial
I have a big announcement today, and it comes courtesy of one man's faith in a couple of hockey die-hards and his commitment to a program schedule. As of today, I am proud to announce that HBIC will be taking to the airwaves for a brand-new endeavor as The Hockey Show on 101.5 CJUM-FM will commence next Thursday! Now you might be saying, "How did this clown get a radio show", and that's a valid assessment. After all, they just don't give airtime to anyone, especially at a radio station where time slots seem to be more valuable than gold. But, as stated above, one man's faith in a couple of hockey nuts will put myself and a friend of HBIC on the air for 30 minutes each Thursday to chat hockey happenings.
The Hockey Show with Teebz and Beans will air at 6:00 CT and run for 30 minutes. It is a talk-format show where we'll literally shoot the breeze and chat about all sorts of hockey happenings from the week before as well as looking ahead to things that are to come in hockey. The format was left up to us, so we'll probably take some calls, have some fun, and, if we're lucky, give away some free stuff. All you have to do is tune in!
The idea spawned from program director Michael E.'s highly-intellectual mind. He approached me and asked if I would be interested in having my own talk show about hockey. Before he could finish his question, I'm pretty sure I said "yes" a dozen times, but there were some logistics to go over before this idea came to fruition. Like actually training us to use the equipment in the booth. Like the station policies on content. Like how to actually be a competent radio host without coming off sounding like a deranged lunatic.
After some excellent training by Amanda, an accomplished DJ at the station, Beans and I were ready to tackle the actual on-air stuff. Our first lesson was at the expense of Amanda's own show where we took over her show. We played music, we had chatter, and Beans even received a compliment on his music selection from a caller. And no, that wasn't even set up!
I will be adding another button on the right menu for 101.5 UMFM in the near future where you can listen to the show online, and it will definitely be up before Thursday, September 13 when The Hockey Show with Teebz and Beans goes live for the inaugural episode. Once I have all the details, I'll post the email address, phone number, and whatever else so that we can interact with you, the listeners. After all, you guys make doing all this enjoyable, and HBIC has always been "of the people, by the people, and for the people".
Ladies and gentlemen, I am pumped for this opportunity. Beans, a long-time friend of HBIC and defenceman extraordinaire, will certainly have an opportunity to voice his opinions, and we'll try to work a few of your opinions in as well every Thursday. I'll get a show schedule up for you once we have things nailed down as well. Also, if you happen to miss the show and want to hear what two rambling fools on the radio sound like, there will be podcasts available of the show. That's right - you can take The Hockey Show with Teebz and Beans with you!
Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell your co-workers. Tell anyone who has the internet. A couple of airheads will be on the air in one week's time, and we'll be talking nothing but hockey. Beauty, eh?
Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
