The Hockey Show - Episode 482

The Hockey Show, Canada's only campus-produced radio show that strictly talks hockey, is back tonight with another show that deals with COVID-19 thanks to the massive outbreak in hockey leagues across North America. As we know, the new variant appears to be far more contagious and easier to spread, and we're seeing the results of that as NHL teams put players into COVID protocols, OHL games are postponed, ECHL games are postponed, and provincial governments crack down on what can and can't be done to mitigate the quick spread of the virus that has affected not only hockey, but football, basketball, and soccer as well.

While Bubly soft drinks aren't sponsoring tonight's show, hockey fan Michael Bublé kicks off the show with one of his Christmas songs as this particular song is co-host Jason Pchajek's favorite holiday tune! Teebz and Jason go over all the NHL players and teams who have players and staff in quarantine followed by looking at other leagues and other sports who have seen an explosion of cases with NHL involvement at the 2022 Beijing Olympics still up in the air. They follow that with a discussion about the Chinese men's hockey team being allowed to play at the Olympics, John Tortorella's time-travel problems and why we should celebrate the Zegras-Milano goal, the arena situations in Calgary and Arizona, and Bruce Boudreau's success in Vancouver. If you needed an update on who's not playing, we have that. If you want more varied hockey stories dissected, the second half of the show is for you. Where's the best place can you hear tonight's show if you're outside Winnipeg or not near a radio, you ask? The new UMFM website's online streaming player is pretty awesome if you want to listen online. If you're using an Apple device, the player doesn't seem to like Safari yet, so if you want to stream the show I'd recommend Radio Garden to do that as it works nicely with Safari. If you're more of an app person, we recommend you use the TuneIn app found on the App Store or Google Play Store. If you do use the TuneIn app, you won't be disappointed. It's a solid app.
